Jean Rohe Trio kicks off new Gowanus family music series

Singer/composer Jean Rohe and her trio will kick off the first concert of a new music series, the Douglass Street Family Concert Series, at the Douglass Street Music Collective in Gowanus, Brooklyn on Sunday December 12th at noon. A charismatic and versatile musician, Jean sings in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. The Music Collective is at 295 Douglass St. (between 3rd and 4th Ave.) and suggested donation is $10/children and $15/adults. Concerts will run approximately 75 minutes. Space is limited to 50 people or so, so patrons are encouraged to arrive early to ensure seating.

This new series of monthly family concerts over the next eight months is curated by NYC based composer and saxophonist Sam Sadigursky and will be held at Douglass Street, a musician-run space that is primarily used for rehearsals and performances. Sadigursky says “I’m gearing the concerts towards children of all ages… I’ve always loved the old Leonard Bernstein Concerts for Young People and have long dreamed of putting together something of my own, where music is revealed in way that appeals to both children and adults. Each artist will choose their own format and present the music of their choice, explaining aspects of what they do, opening up dialogues about their music, and encouraging audience participation and questions from the kids (and adults!). I’ve chosen a number of my favorite artists and composers, all of whom have extensive experience working with children, either through teaching music privately, performing in similar concerts or workshops, or having children of their own.”

Future concerts in the series include:
Sunday, January 9th – 2pm – Becca Stevens Band
Sunday, February 6th – 2pm – Dan Loomis
Sunday, March 6th – 2pm – Sebastian Cruz
Sunday, April 10th – 2pm – Ziv Ravitz
Sunday, May 8th – 2pm – Daniel Kelly
Sunday, June 5th – 2pm – Sam Sadigursky
