Pianist and composer John McDowell is best known as composer of the score to Oscar winning documentary Born Into Brothels and has toured with platinum selling rock/world music band Rusted Root and with singer Krishna Das. His world music band Mamma Tongue has performed at venues and festivals internationally. Juilliard and McGill trained violinist Emmanuel Vukovich is the recipient of Canada’s first Golden Violin Award, as well as the Canada Council for the Arts Orford String Quartet Scholarship. As a member of the former Lloyd Carr-Harris String Quartet, which won the prestigious Fischoff Competition, he has toured throughout North America and Europe. Both musicians have collaborated on the sound track to the film Stolenwhich is premiering at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival.

The Golden Key Salon Series at the Bechstein Piano Centre features new and distinguished artists, premiere performances, and post-concert “meet the artists” wine receptions. The concerts are presented in partnership with the Golden Key Music Institute, a non-profit organization dedicated to encouraging and educating musicians to perform with ease and communicative power.

A Canadian currently residing in New York City, award winning composer and performer Rob Mosher straddles both the jazz and classical worlds. Specializing on oboe, English horn and soprano sax, Rob is the leader of the critically acclaimed ten-piece ensemble Storytime.

Blending lyrical melodies, catchy grooves and band interplay, the Rob Mosher Quartet delivers a satisfying sonic experience. Featuring the compositions and soprano sax of its leader Rob Mosher, this group focuses on improvisation.

Emilio Teubal, Argentinean, born in Spain, has lived for more than a decade in NYC where he earned a BFA in jazz performance from the City College of New York graduating Magna Cum Laude. He has also been awarded with the prestigious Meet The Composer’s Van Lier Fellowship 2007 .He has performed in some of the most prestigious jazz clubs in NYC such us Blue Note, Birdland, Sweet Rhythm, Dizzy’s Coca Cola Club, Joes Pub, Cornelia Street Cafe, 55 Bar and The Knitting Factory among others. Emilio has been a member of different New York based music ensembles such as Sebastian Cruz’s Coba, Los Chantas Tango Group, and the Marta Gomez’s group, with whom he has toured the USA, Mexico, Spain and Argentina.

Emilio’s Band, La Balteuband is a multinational instrumental ensemble based in NYC. His compositions are a blend of jazz and elements of Argentine music, such as rhythms like chacarera and zamba along with the lyricism of tango melodies.

La Balteuband’s music consists of rhythmically and harmonically rich pre-composed structures and improvised sections that highlight the musicality of each member of the band. This is what makes each performance of the group so fresh and special.

La Balteuband has performed in New York venues such as the Joes Pub, 55 Bar, Makor, Cornelia Street Cafe, Galapagos Arts Space, and many more.

The FCQ performs settings to a wide variety of texts including poems by 20th (and 21st) century writers (Robert Creeley, Kenneth Rexroth, Anna Akhmatova, Jack Kerouac etc) as well as various other sources. Their latest release is “The American Dream” on the Red Piano Records label. The FCQ is preparing to record their next CD entitled “Uncivilized Ruminations” in the near future scheduled for a 2010 release.
